Out of all the English kings, Edward VII, nicknamed Dirty Bertie, had the strongest affinity for Parisian culture and lifestyle. From the 1880s, Paris became the world's hub of entertainment and pleasures.
When Edward VII was still a young prince devoid of any responsibility for the crown, he left for Paris in search of leisure and pleasure. Paris became his second home, he stayed as long as he wished and frequented a popular brothel at the time, Le Chabanais, and had a dedicated room.
The prince's main problem was his overweight. To overcome the physical impediment, a furniture maker was called to make what he called "the chair of love".
The chair was made in such a way that the future king could act without getting too tired, and to allow him to have sex with two or more women simultaneously.
